Easyling release notes October, 2024

Happy Halloween to the humorous, hearty hearers hereby hinted at, hailed honourably as ‘you’. I promise that’s the end of the amazing alliterations. This month, we focused on giving you more control over staging domains and Translation Memories. Read the full article for the details!

Specific Staging domains in crawls

Working with staging domains can be crucial to ensure that the new content is translated before it makes its way to the main site. However, scenarios may arise where changing the selected staging domain is not ideal, but you may still need to crawl content on a different staging domain. You can now select a staging domain for just one crawl in step 4 of the Crawl wizard. Select the Miscellaneous tab and scroll down to the Staging domain section. Note that this section is only visible if there are staging domains on the project.

TMX export improvements

We discovered a small issue where TMX files exported from Easyling weren’t compatible with XTM. We made minor tweaks to the algorithm creating these exports to ensure better compatibility. We removed additional data that is not strictly part of the TMX specification and tweaked how the tags are exported.

Mixed-technology improvements

Easyling supports subdomain publishing via client-side translation with a mixed operation mode. In this scenario, requests reach a proxy-like system in Easyling that handles content serving without translation. Then the JS engine can handle the translation. This is used for the preview and serving via subdomain publishing.

As this system uses the JavaScript translation engine, there is a very short time when the page loaded but the translation is yet to be applied. In this case, during this translation process, the lang attribute of the document stays the source language. This may cause issues. With this month’s release, we added the option to handle the lang attribute in the “proxy” so that it is always the target language, even if the text is not yet.
This is useful when you have analytics suites that run immediately on page load and report the language based on this attribute, as the tag will be correct even before the translation engine gets around to it.
