Easyling release notes March, 2025

This month, we focused on under-the-hood improvements for proxy serving. We added support for translating JavaScript files that make use of newer language features. Additionally, we revised our recommendation for blocking malicious bots. If you use this feature, be sure to read the full article!

JavaScript translation

For most websites, content comes from HTML files. With that in mind, the Translation proxy publishing method is geared for translating HTML files. It’s its bread and butter. However, sometimes content can come from JavaScript files. In that case, those JS files need to be annotated via the JSON/JS/XML processing section of the Dashboard. Part of this process is analysing the JS code in question.

This month, we added support for many new JS features during this analysis. As such, you’ll be able to process more modern websites that make use of these.

Note that this is a breaking change, so we can’t enable it for existing projects by default. We’re enabling it on projects on an opt-in basis. If you have a project that needs to process modern JS - maybe as part of a site redesign - reach out to us at support@easyling.com. We’ll be sure to walk you through the process of migrating your existing configuration.

Blocking bad bots

When a proxy-based project is published it is crucial to ensure that the content is served to real human visitors only. This allows you to save on otherwise unnecessary serving costs both on the original server as well as in Easyling. The Blocking bad bots feature is designed to help with just that. You can specify a regular expression to filter out unwanted traffic. We offer a recommendation for an appropriate regular expression. It was brought to our attention that the previous recommended value prevented Google Ads campaigns from functioning correctly. As such, we revised it to ensure ads can be served on your website should you wish to do so.

Miscellaneous

There are just a few smaller tweaks to be mentioned here:

• We added thousand separators to word counts in the automated e-mails we send. This should improve their legibility.
• We tweaked the automated e-mails we send to ensure they don’t end up in your spam folder.
• We fixed a bug where the last step of the crawl wizard wouldn’t be visible on a narrow screen or in a narrow window.
