Easyling release notes January, 2024

We returned from the holidays reinvigorated and had one of the most productive months in quite a while now. We improved existing features significantly. Both the translator engine itself as well as our OpenAI GPT integration was updated. Read the full article for all details.

Crest updates

A quick reminder, Crest is the technology that is added to your website to place the translated segments where they belong. While it works with the vast majority of the websites out of the box, some pose a bit more of a challenge. This months, we focused on partial updates.

Websites often have dynamic content. These content updates must be followed. Most websites update sections or segments at the time, but there’s always the odd one out. What if only part of a segment is changed? We now updated the algorithm to support more of these scenarios.

Another improvement is around attribute translation. We now check whether an attribute had already been translated before applying new translations. This prevents “translation leakage” where translated content is detected as new source content.

OpenAI upgrades

We switched our systems to communicate with GPT via JSON, a data exchange format that is easy to handle on our end and that GPT is very good at producing. This simplifies the request we’re sending to the language model, so that they can focus on providing accurate translations as opposed to formatting its output. Based on our testing, we found that translation quality is noticeably improved.

This also allows GPT to provide notes alongside the translation explaining why they decided to use the specific words, for example. These notes are now displayed when you test the prompt you entered on the Dashboard. This allows you to tweak the prompt and have some insight of what’s going on under the hood.

Workbench

Yes! The Workbench is still alive and we’re still working on it. This month, we improved the algorithm the Workbench uses for searching the segments. This will speed up the process on large projects considerably.

We also widened the Work package selector to play nicer with long WPG names, such as the ones created via auto pre-translate.

Fixes

We naturally have a few miscellaneous fixes as well:

  • On the wallet information card, the nickname of the wallet owner is now displayed as opposed to their email address.
  • Sometimes websites contain invalid HTML documents. We implemented a change that allows our system to work around them better.
  • We clarified wording on the statistics pages.
  • Site search now returns a cursor to continue with further results after first batch.
  • Re-generated the XTM client libraries to follow new changes. This ensures continued compatibility with XTM.
  • Resolved an error occurring in the Pages list when listing “Unknown pages”.
  • We fixed a bug that would prevent the “Top Up” menu item from showing up.
