Easyling release notes February, 2025
In February, we focused on giving you further options for machine translation via LLMs. These models have great understanding of languages, so they can include nuances that other MT engines can not. We added support for DeepSeek and Google Gemini too. Additionally, we added new SEO features for Crest. Read the full article for the details.
LLMs as machine translation engines
Machine translation is tricky business. In most scenarios, straight translations aren’t wanted. Instead of copying what the words individually mean, translators need to transform the content to convey the meaning of the sentence. Regular machine translation engines, like Google translate are likely to fail at this. LLMs on the other hand “think” in a different way, so they are usually better at this.
OpenAI models have been supported for a while, but this month we added support for DeepSeek and Google Gemini. They provide exceptional performance for the cost, deserving all the hype in the media. Their translations can be a great jumping off point for further post-editing. It’s likely that most sentences won’t need edits at all. You can configure them in their own sections under Third party integrations on the Dashboard.
SEO tags section
By default, the translator script adds hreflang
links to ensure correct SEO. These elements specify where the original website is as well as the target languages. This information helps search engines return the most suitable version of the page to users who may be searching in a different language or region. In some scenarios, the original website’s developers prefer to have full control over these. When that is required, you can use this section to disable Crest’s SEO behaviour completely or partially. Find this section near the bottom of Publish → JavaScript publishing.
Miscellaneous
There are a few smaller improvements that we added.
- We improved the handling of the root page for path prefix overrides in case of subdirectory publishing.
- We fixed the icons being the same for Import and Export in the Translation memory action menu.
- Translated URLs can now be included in
sitemap.xml
. - We replaced the toggle with a checkbox for email unsubscribe option.
- It is now possible to split an existing work package based on translation sources.
- We fixed memory leak in TMX import process.
